Saturday Academy (SA) provides wide access to hands-on learning for diverse students in grades K-12 in the areas of Science, Technology, Engineering, Math, and the Arts (STEAM). In the summer SA offers 8-weeks of robust STEAM-fueled out-of-school learning in summer camps for students in grades K-8. The SA ASE Intern will support development and execution of Saturday Academy’s 2025 Summer Camps.
As a next generation STEAM Educator, the intern will have the opportunity to learn through:
- Curriculum development for grades K-5
- Classroom management
- Trauma-informed care
- Collaborative process of team teaching
By the end of the summer, the intern will have successfully accomplished the lesson planning of core activities, experiments, and exercises pertaining to a wide range of STEAM centered topics. They will have created a curricular roadmap, practiced one-on-one techniques to support students with learning needs, create a behavior support plan, researched a range of current trends in STEAM out-of-school learning, and taught successfully, with leadership support.
SA ASE Interns will be responsible for the support of morning and/or afternoon STEAM activities, exercises, projects. They will support individual students' needs, prep activities and experiments, lesson plan, and co-teach/teach after scaffolded learning. This is a part-time internship, with the expectation that the intern will work at least 200 hours over the course of the summer.
Mentorship will be provided by Saturday Academy staff, including but not limited to the Summer Camp Director, Administrative Assistant, Camp Lead Educators, Executive Director, and more! Projects and goals will be tailored around individual students' interests, with strong wrap-around support for reflection each week. Students will build their teaching "back pocket" and experience the joy of summer out-of-school learning, a time to center creativity and curiosity. With a focus on intersectionality, the ASE Intern will look at ways that Science, Technology, Engineering, the Arts, and Mathematics inform one another, ensuring holistic approaches in the camp experience.
